Like Ella Mai, there a number of soulful UK artists that changing the way we know R&B. Check out this playlist of artists that should be in your music rotation.

Top Playlists for Your Favorite TV Shows

Top Playlists for Your Favorite Black TV Shows

Melanin representation is at an all time high and black girl magic is everywhere. There are countless examples of our powerful black women gracing the most coveted September issue covers of fashion magazines. We are succeeding in life and showing the world that we can in fact have it all. Although, we still have a lot to do in Hollywood, it sure feels great to have scripted television that portrays the beauty and essence of our black women and men. Through flaws and imperfections, highs and lows, we are seeing our lives play out on the screen with music as our soundtrack. The newest show Love is ___ is 90s nostalgia and Insecure makes it a point to highlight underrated, mostly indie artists. There’s no need to Shazam every song because I have listed links to the playlists of some of your favorite shows below.

Four of My Favorite Quotes from the Legendary Aretha Franklin

Quotes from the Queen of Soul on Music, Respect and Soul

Legendary Aretha Franklin passed away on Thursday, August 16th and she will forever be remembered as the Queen of Soul. Here are some of my favorite Franklin quotes:

“Music does a lot of things for a lot of people. It’s transporting, for sure. It can take you right back, years back, to the very moment certain things happened in your life. It’s uplifting, it’s encouraging, it’s strengthening.”

Aretha Franklin

“Soul is a constant. It’s cultural. It’s always going to be there, in different flavors and degrees.”

Aretha Franklin

“R&B is not a fad; it’s the truth.”

Aretha Franklin

“Every birthday is a gift. Every day is a gift.”
